S3: Mission 1 - International Robotics Championship

S3: Mission 1

Objective

After the encounter with the klingon ship, the Enterprise took heavy damage and casualties. Until you will manage to get to the closest starbase, Commander Raynor will assume command of the ship after the captain’s death.

But to get there, you will first need to repair the warp engines. Access to engineering room is impossible, as the room is full of anesthezine and life support is not working. Together with your team, you devised a plan by sending in an autonomous repairbot, to move the switches on the command console.

You will teleport the repairbot inside, but he will have to be programmed to solve the problems alone. Your team will try to access several teleportation zones, to move more quickly, but cameras inside do not work. It will have to discover them on his own.

His first task should be to stabilize the power. This can be done by setting the power sliders of the main and auxiliary power systems to 0. The computer will provide further information on the screens on how to manually override the other commands. It will have to understand them and action based on that feedback.

Time is of the essence, once again. You need to move as fast as possible…

Rules

  1. You need to build and program your own robot.
  2. You are not allowed to change the scale of the robot. The robot must have the dimensions the VRT gives when importing. You are not allowed to change these dimensions.
  3. Make sure the projection of the robot is completely inside the start (red) area.
  4. There is no restriction for the height of the robot, though.
  5. You will need to start your recording showing us the robot fits the starting area before running the simulation, to validate your submission.
  6. The robot must be autonomous. No manual controlling is allowed. To verify this, you need to record your full screen, to make sure no keys are assigned and pressed.
  7. Judges may ask for your program if they feel there is manual control.
  8. You should figure out how to solve the puzzles. You are given the hints for the first puzzle at the beginning. The rest will unveil, step by step.
  9. Teleportation sites are active, you will need to find them inside the room.
  10. Remember that the scoreboard must be visible at all time.
  11. Take care on how you write the time in the submission form. Time will be provided in seconds, with decimal! If this is not correctly inputed or transformed from VRT scoreboard, the submission will be invalidated.

Scoring

  1. Upon submitting, you must provide the video link, along with the final score. The score recorded on the scoreboard must be the same with the one you insert manually upon submitting. Differences will automatically invalidate your submission.
  2. Each task will provide a number of points. Each moving part to finish a task will provide you a number of points. So, you may score some points of a puzzle, even if you do not finish it!
  3. For the first task, you will get 2 points for each power slider pushed on position 0.
  4. For the others, other points will be received.
  5. Every participant who completely and correctly finishes the mission will get 72 points, regardless the time recorded.
  6. There are secrets you can discover (site to site transportation), but they will only aid you into solving the missions faster. They will not grant you any more points.
  7. Time counts for this mission. The standings will be based on the next criteria:
    1. Best scores first;
    2. In case of ties, best time will be taken in consideration.
  8. Bonus points will be awarded as such:
    1. 5 points to the 1st classified;
    2. 4 points to the 2nd classified;
    3. 3 points to the 3rd classified;
    4. 2 points to the 4th classified;
    5. 1 point to the 5th classified.
