Objective

The captain made a compelling argument: exploring new worlds is your number one mission. You must see what is the source of the distress signal.

Use your piloting skills and land safely on the surface of this unknown planet. You will need to use the Starfleet X-Wing to transport the crew and your experimental robot. You will need it!

As you recall from Starfleet Academy, the X-Wing uses ultrasonic navigators to understand the environment. You have one on the front to avoid obstacles and one on each side of the ship to keep the ship steady. All you need is to make sure you avoid anything you encounter.

Remember your training: use the switch method to pilot the ship (similar to a line follower, but using ultrasonic sensor) or a PD controller, if you recall advanced programming classes.

It looks like a bumpy ride, but remember the captain’s last words: “”God speed!”.

Rules

1. All general rules apply on this stage.
2. You do not need to build a robot. You will use the given robot.
3. You just need to program the robot, mainly the ultrasonic sensors, so that the robot will not crash in any of the objects.
4. On the sides are invisible walls at some distance. The robot can easily sense them to maintain course.
5. Take in consideration that, if wrongly programmed, the robot might lose control and get of course, crashing. You need to keep moving as forward as possible.
6. The robot must be autonomous. No manual controlling is allowed. To verify this, you need to record your full screen, to make sure no keys are assigned and pressed.
7. Judges may ask for your program if they feel there is manual control.
8. Also, remember that the scoreboard must be visible at all time.

Scoring

1. Upon submitting, you must provide the video link, along with the final score. The score recorded on the scoreboard must be the same with the one you insert manually upon submitting. Differences will automatically invalidate your submission.
2. You will get 1 point for each 50m you successfully managed to travel.
3. Every participant who completely and correctly finishes the mission will get 35 points, regardless the time recorded. There are some secrets and you may score bonus points for this task.
