S1: Mission 1 - International Robotics Championship

S1: Mission 1

Mission 1: Asteroid Shooting

Objective

Use your engineering skills and build a robot which will shoot asteroids towards the uninhabited part of the planet.

Read the color of the ship’s dome to make sure you will hit the right asteroids, the blue, icy ones. The grey ones should not be hit!

Also, be certain you will land the asteroids inside the designated target. Otherwise, you will destroy cities and kill Aldeans 🙁 .

The captain provided you with some other robot designs the Federation experimented in the past for this kind of mission. But it is not working more than once. So, if you need some inspiration, do not be shy to use this. You can access the files here.

Good luck!

Rules

  1. All general rules apply on this stage.
  2. You will need to build a robot and put it on top of the ship, on the saucer section. It is up to you where you put it.
  3. You have to hit only the blue asteroids to earn points. Each asteroid counts as 10 points. You can detect the blue asteroids by scanning the dome of the ship and wait for the blue color to appear.
  4. Rock asteroids will give you a 10 points penalty if hit. You can read the dome of the ship not to be red, to avoid hitting asteroids.
  5. Missing the target area will also give you a 10 point penalty per miss.

Scoring

  1. Upon submitting, you must provide the video link, along with the final score. The score recorded on the scoreboard must be the same with the one you insert manually upon submitting. Differences will automatically invalidate your submission.
  2. Each blue asteroid which lands in the target area will give you 10 points. There are 4 blue ice asteroids which need to be hit, so the maximum score is 40 points.
  3. Each rock asteroid will give you -10 points per hit.
  4. Each miss of the main target will grant you -10 points.
  5. Every participant who completely and correctly finishes the mission will get 40 points, regardless the time recorded. There are no bonus points for this task.
  6. Beware the fact that you can get negative scores if you gain to many penalties.
