GF: Mission 2 - International Robotics Championship

GF: Mission 2

Mission 2: Battle with the Borg

The Borg has reached Earth and destroyed most of Starfleet’s ships. The Enterprise arrived late to the fight and now stands alone against this ruthless enemy.

Your mission is to program the ship’s system to obey the captain’s orders. More exactly, build a robot and devise a strategy to defeat the enemy ship. Here are some key points of the mission:

  • the Borg ship will also attack you with different weapons and damage you, so you it is a mission against time.
  • you must program the Enterprise’s system to obey the captain’s orders and operate the ship’s different systems.
  • there is a targeting system to target where to fire on the Borg ship.
  • There is a loading bay where missiles get replicated. So you need to load the missile tube by taking the it from the loading bay and arming the tube. Then you can activate the firing sequence.
  • You also have a scanning system to scan for clues of how the other ships battled the Borg before you. In order to use it, you need to divert power to the scanning system. In this time, the targeting  and weapons system will not work properly.
  • There are secrets that you must discover in order to complete the mission easier. Explore!
  • The weapons system is an experimental one. The missiles will launch, but each missile needs a random time to accelerate towards the target. But, rest assured, all missile launch and hit.

Rules

  1. You need to build and program your own robot.
  2. You are not allowed to change the scale of the robot. The robot must have the dimensions the VRT gives when importing. You are not allowed to change these dimensions.
  3. There is no restriction for the robot’s dimensions height or length, but the robot must have only one EV3 brick.
  4. You can put your robot anywhere as a starting position.
  5. The robot must be autonomous. No manual controlling is allowed. To verify this, you need to record your full screen, to make sure no keys are assigned and pressed.
  6. Judges may ask for your program if they feel there is manual control.
  7. You can manually place the robot wherever you want on the map.
  8. Your robot should be able to activate all the ship’s system. Watch the teaser with close attention as it demonstrates how you use the systems.
  9. There are no secrets for this mission.
  10. Remember that the scoreboard must be visible at all time.
  11. Take care on how you write the time in the submission form. Time will be provided in seconds, with decimal! If this is not correctly inputed or transformed from VRT scoreboard, the submission will be invalidated.

Scoring

  1. Upon submitting, you must provide the video link, along with the final score. The score recorded on the scoreboard must be the same with the one you insert manually upon submitting. Differences will automatically invalidate your submission.
  2. There are many tasks in this mission, but only firing on the Borg ship counts as score. Also, only firing once in a place will grant points. Multiple firing on the same spot will grant points only first time.
  3. Each missile will count as 5 points.
  4. Every participant who completely and correctly finishes the mission will get 50 points, regardless the time recorded.
  5. Time counts for this mission. The standings will be based on the next criteria:
    1. Best scores first;
    2. In case of ties, best time will be taken in consideration.
  6. Bonus points will be awarded as such:
    1. 5 points to the 1st classified;
    2. 4 points to the 2nd classified;
    3. 3 points to the 3rd classified;
    4. 2 points to the 4th classified;
    5. 1 point to the 5th classified.
